Supplements are a waste of money if you are getting 3 squares a day.

When you say you have been working out for awhile, how long is awhile?

Eat 6 squares a day. Whey protein is cheap and it doesn't fill you up too much. Drink one of those a day too.

You are probably not eating enough and/or not working out consistantly enough and/or not working out hard enough

Supplements are over-rated. But I wouldn't say they're a waste. Well, not all of them. Worthwhile supplements:

Creatine
Essential Fatty Acids (Fish, borage, flax oil)
Protein

If you really want to gain muscle, you're going to need more protein. As somebody already suggested, 1-2 shakes per day is a good idea.

eat 6 meals a day
up your calories
get atleast 1-1.5 gram protein per bodyweight
add more weight and try 6 reps on each set...
try some creatine....

Keep a food diary and check out your intakes. I would bet that 90% of people lifting weights don't get nearly enough protein.

take whey protein. i've been taking ON whey the last 8 mths or so, and I have gotten pretty ripped. i've actually had better results when I only take a protein shake immediately after working out-instead of in the morning or at lunch daily. I used to try and get "1 gram of protein per body pound," or at least close to that-that seems like a scam to me.. and I eat a decent diet

Yes,

Take the whey protein and creatine and lift heavy. You have to lift heavy to get bigger. You should find a rep range so that between 6-10 reps you are reaching failure. Change your routine as well. Do more sets, slow your tempo, different routines. Eat, eat, eat 3,000 cals a day.

I mix my powders. Egg, Soy, and Whey.

Started doing that about 6 mo. ago and I've been getting better results.
